Rhoades Elementary Has Its Own Morning News Desk
Two students take the anchor seats each morning in the school library, covering announcements, lunch and the joke of the day.

At Rhoades Elementary in Broken Arrow, the morning announcements come from a student news desk.

Two students anchor the broadcast each day from a small set inside the school library. They lead the Pledge of Allegiance, Oklahoma’s flag salute and the Tiger Creed, share school announcements and let everyone know what is being served for lunch.

There is also a joke of the day.

KJRH’s visit to Rhoades Elementary showed librarian Eric Schmidt helping students through the broadcast as different kids rotate into the anchor seats.

Schmidt said some students are nervous when they first get behind the camera. His advice is to treat it like making a YouTube or TikTok video and be themselves.

For a few minutes each morning, the school library becomes its own little newsroom—and the people delivering the day’s news are the same kids their classmates will see in the hallway.
