New ways seniors can receive locally sourced food from the Tulsa Farmers Market

Partnership between Life Senior Services and Tulsa's Farmers Market expand ways senior citizens can get locally sourced food.

TULSA, Okla. -

Nearly one in five American seniors faces food insecurity, which is why Life Senior Services and the Tulsa Farmers Market have joined forces to help.

Eileen Bradshaw with Life Senior Services and Kris Rosson with the Tulsa Farmers Market joined News on 6 at noon to discuss their partnership and how seniors in Tulsa can take advantage of new resources.

Key takeaways

1. Three opportunities to utilize the Tulsa Farmers Market: Saturday mornings, Wednesday mornings, and online
2. Two opportunities to get more benefits: ‘Double Up Oklahoma’ and the 2026 Transit Initiative
3. Online ordering now available for Tulsans

Bradshaw says sometimes seniors don’t apply for SNAP and if they do, the amount isn’t huge. She says the Life Senior Services partnership with the Tulsa Farmers Market is helping seniors get the resources they need easier.

“We know there’s need out there,” Bradshaw said. “I’m a huge farmers market fan and they do so many cool things for seniors.”

The Tulsa Farmers Market is known for its Saturday event, Rawson says there’s other opportunities for seniors that are more convenient.

Rosson says the market has a seasonal market that runs Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Kendall Whitter.

“This market is really designed to be more accessible,” Rosson said. “It’s more friendly to those that maybe have mobility issues and might just need closer parking or just a smaller crowd to navigate.”

Rosson says the market always accepts SNAP benefits and it doubles the benefits with ‘Double Up Oklahoma’.

The market also offers a senior transit program. The program gives senior citizens an additional $10 to shop the farmer’s market.

The market says it’s been partnering with different communities to help provide transportation to get seniors to the market.

The market also recently unveiled online ordering. This allows seniors access to goods from the farmers market from their phone or computer. Seniors can place an order and choose to pick it up Wednesday afternoon or they can get the goods delivered. Right now, the market is only delivering to homes in midtown Tulsa, but plans to deliver to more areas.

“We are hoping that we’ll continue to expand our delivery service area as well,” Rosson said.
